The UK immigration landscape continues to evolve, with the Home Office introducing further amendments through the latest Statement of Changes to the Immigration Rules, HC 259, published on 9 July 2026.
The changes take effect from 30 July 2026 and include updates affecting Graduate route dependants, family applications, immigration bail, the Electronic Travel Authorisation scheme and EU Settlement Scheme travel permits.

Key Changes Introduced
Graduate Route Dependants: New Provision for UK Born Children
One of the notable changes provides a clearer route for children born in the UK while a parent holds Graduate route permission. Previously, families faced uncertainty regarding the immigration position of children born during this period. Under the updated rules, eligible children can apply as dependants and receive permission aligned with their parent’s Graduate route leave.
This provides greater certainty for international graduates building their lives and careers in the UK.
Changes Affecting Indian Diplomatic Passport Holders
The updated Immigration Rules extend diplomatic visa arrangements to holders of Indian diplomatic passports. This reflects changes to UK visa arrangements for diplomatic travellers and ensures the rules better reflect current international agreements.
Updates to Family and Child Immigration Rules
The Home Office has introduced amendments relating to children under Part 8 and Appendix FM. These include updated care and accommodation requirements, which may affect applications involving children and family migration routes.

Partners of Individuals With Temporary Protection Status

The rules around suitability assessments have also been amended. The requirement for fingerprint biometrics has been removed for certain EUSS Family Permit travel permit applications. This simplifies the process for eligible applicants.
Electronic Travel Authorisation Criminality Rules
The ETA scheme has also been updated. Suspended sentences are now included within criminality provisions, meaning they may affect eligibility or lead to refusal or cancellation in relevant circumstances.
